The phone call to the penthouse was humiliating, but Julian had no choice.
Thirty minutes later, Isabella Rossi opened the door to the penthouse. Julian and Maya stood there, soaking wet, holding two suitcases and a box of medical books.
Victoria was in the living room, bouncing Leo on her hip. When she saw them, her face softened into fierce resolve. She handed Leo to Isabella and walked straight to Maya, pulling her into a hug.
“I am so sorry,” Victoria said. “Isabella is preparing the guest suite. You stay as long as you need.”
“We can’t impose,” Julian said, looking at the floor. “My father… he won’t stop. Bringing us here just brings the target to your door.”
“The target is already on my door,” William said, walking in from his office, looking exhausted but firm. “This is a fortress. Let him try to evict you from here.”
Victoria pulled back and looked at Maya. “And I have another idea. I’m launching a line of organic, hypoallergenic baby products. I need a Medical Consultant to vet the ingredients and handle the safety protocols. It comes with a salary that Arthur Sterling can’t touch.”
Maya’s eyes widened. She had been facing professional pressure at the hospital due to Arthur’s influence. This was a lifeline.
“I’m in,” Maya said, tears in her eyes.
“Good,” Victoria smiled, the ‘Lioness’ protecting her pride. “Now, let’s get you dry. We have a war to win.”
