Chapter 288: The Red Flag

“Julian, come look at this.”

In the back office of the Sterling-Khan Clinic, Maya Khan was staring at her monitor. As part of the clinic’s retainer with Croft Enterprises, the executive insurance profiles were automatically updated each quarter.

“I’m busy scrubbing the instruments,” Julian called out, embracing his role as the humble partner.

“It’s the new CEO,” Maya said, her voice tight. “Malcolm’s biometrics just uploaded from his corporate physical.”

Julian walked over, drying his hands. He looked at the numbers Maya highlighted: Creatinine levels spiking. Glomerular filtration rate plummeting. White blood cell count abnormal.

“That can’t be right,” Julian frowned. “These look like the labs of a man in end-stage renal failure.”

“Or a genetic defect triggered by stress,” Maya corrected, pulling up a comparative chart. “It’s accelerating, Julian. If these numbers are accurate, he doesn’t have five years like the European doctors thought. He has maybe six months.”
